With right model, Hi-Pointe could fill niche

To the editor:

I enjoyed Kara Krekeler’s recent article about the future of the Hi-Pointe movie theater and I have a suggestion for the owners.

Some years ago I would go to the pre-improved Tivoli to see great movies past their prime at reduced rates. This was a most interesting and enjoyable experience. I saw great films in a real movie house on a big screen with big sound. Some I had seen before and some not, but they were all enjoyable. Can you imagine being able to revisit these films in the proper setting and not on a TV? I can think of many I’d like to see and I believe there are many others like me.

The owners could allow patrons to be involved in the selection. Of course this proposal involves the movie distributors, who may only be interested in pulling every last dollar in to cover the cost of new films, and they might not like the idea of supporting older films. That is a part of the business that I’m not familiar with, so I can only suggest this and hope it is feasible. The price would have to be right, but then these films should not be that expensive to acquire for showing. I’m sure this is not a new idea and that someone somewhere has figured a way to do this. Just think, revisiting many of your favorite films of the past, the great film-noir movies, musicals and on and on ….
