Local business students offer help with tax-season paperwork
Business administration students from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State University are offering their skills in tax preparation to low-income taxpayers and senior citizens now through tax day, April 15.
The UM-St. Louis service is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Sessions take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays at the CWE’s Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave. as well as other area libraries. Call 516- 5626 for information on the VITA program.
The Harris-Stowe tax- preparation service takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Call 256-8188 for the precise on-campus locations, which vary by day.
Individual circumstances differ, but the supporting documentation most often needed for tax preparation are W-2s, 1099s and all family members’ social security and individual taxpayer identification numbers. A copy of last year’s tax return can also be a useful starting point. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present to sign paperwork.
