READINGS & LECTURES

JUDY SHEPARD. Fontbonne University and the KMOX Book Club present Judy Shepard, mother of Matthew Shepard, who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in 1998. ART
ANN CODDINGTON RAST. The Sheldon Art Galleries, 3648 Washington Blvd., presents Ann Coddington Rast: adrift, the sculpture of a translucent boat-like shape made from hand-knotted fiber as a metaphor for spiritual transformation. The all-gallery opening reception begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Sculpture Garden. The exhibit runs throughout 2009. ‘METABOLIC CITY.’ The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University, One Brookings Drive, presents Metabolic City, an exhibition to explore visionary architecture of the 1960s. The show opens at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 and runs through Jan. 4, 2010.  For more information call 935-4523.

‘THE ALLURE OF ANTIQUITY.’ The St. Louis Art Museum presents its September seminar series “The Allure of Antiquity: European Artists Inspired by Ancient Rome.” The series runs each Thursday in September from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Museum’s Friends Room. To register call 655-5298.

THEATER
‘TOP GIRLS.’ Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble presents Top Girls at 8 p.m.  Sept. 16 through 26 at The Chapel, 6238 Alexander Drive. The show examines the paradoxical lives of women as a career-driven Marlene and her slew of ambitious friends throughout history strive for success in the workplace and at home.  For information call 835-7415.

‘WONDER OF THE WORLD.’ The Orange Girls Theatre Company concludes its 2009 season with David Lindsay-Abaire’s comedy Wonder of the World, one woman’s slapstick attempt to rewrite the story of her life.  The show runs Sept. 25 through Oct. 11, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays at COCA’s Anheuser-Busch Black Box Theater, 524 Trinity Ave. For more information call 520-9557 or visit www.orangegirls.org.

PLAY:STL MUSIC FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE. The third annual Play:stl Music Festival and Conference takes place from Sept. 17 through 19 in the Delmar Loop.
