Oakhaven Park may be the recipient of new playground equipment if Rock Hill is successful in getting another municipal park grant.

At the May 15 Rock Hill Board of Aldermen meeting, Al Hayden, director of parks and recreation, said the committee has been meeting to discuss applying for the grant which would be due the end of August.

"There is a lot of support for replacement of playground equipment at Oakhaven," he said. "The grant doesn't provide enough funding to do all the parks."

This would be the next phase of park improvements for Oakhaven Park.

"We wouldn't find out until the end of the year, and if we were fortunate enough to get the grant, construction would start next spring or summer," Hayden said.

Signage for New Municipal Center

The board passed a resolution authorizing an agreement with Summit Sign and Graphics for purchasing and installing signage and art works at the new municipal center for $35,637.29.

Kortwright Road Work

The board also authorized an agreement between the city and Weis Design Group for engineering and construction of road improvements to Kortwright Avenue.

"We'll do design this year, and next year right-of-way acquisition, and next year will be construction," said City Administrator Jennifer Yackley. "The city sent out requests for qualifications and received 10 responses.

"Out of those 10 we interviewed three, and we chose Weis Design," she added.

The amount of the contract is not to exceed $88,760.53 for design work, and $54,727.72 for construction and inspection work.

The work will be funded by a Surface Transportation Program (STP) grant. The grant will fund 75 percent of the cost with the city responsible for 25 percent.
