Crossroads College Preparatory School, 500 DeBaliviere Ave., is now home to the largest solar photovoltaic installation on a school in the region.
Three hundred sixty-four solar panels totaling 87 kilowatts will soon power a portion of the Central West End school. StraightUp Solar, based in St. Louis, installed the project in April.
A new leasing option, offered through StraightUp Solar and GreanGrid Solar, allows the school to lease the system at a lower cost than its conventional electricity bill.
In 2010, the school renovated and expanded to become one of only six in the United States to earn Platinum LEED certification, the highest level of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design award by the U.S. Green Building Council.
