Project Manager Selected For New University City Firehouse

April 25, 2012
The University City Council has selected Kwame Building Group to serve as project manger for the building of the city's new firehouse.

At its meeting on April 23, the council approved the $60,000 contract with Kwame. Kwame was one of two firms that had submitted bids to serve as project manager for the firehouse. The other firm was Paric Corporation.

City Manager Lehman Walker told the council that the recommendation to hire Kwame came following interviews that he and Fire Chief Don Miner conducted with both firms.

During discussion of the item, council members Byron Price and Michael Glickert questioned whether $60,000 would be enough to cover the scope of work being proposed, and what would happen if more than that amount was needed.

Walker said based on the discussions that he and Miner had with Kwame representatives, they believed $60,000 would be an adequate amount. He did acknowledge that sometimes unforeseen things come up and that if additional funds were needed, he would come to the council to explain the situation and ask for additional funds.

"We are very committed to working with this project and working with city staff to make that $60,000 work for you," said Zachary Hamilton, Kwame Building Group vice president.
