Del Taco Building Owner Says Tenants Have Yet To Sign On

April 11, 2012
Although there's been word that the city's spaceship-like Del Taco building will become the home of a coffee shop and a Mexican restaurant, building owner and site developer Rick Yackey said no one has signed on the dotted line.

"I have no leases signed with anyone," Yackey told the West End Word, adding that information Alderwoman Marlene Davis had given media outlets about a Starbucks and a Chiptole coming to the site was inaccurate.

Davis, who serves as the city's alderwoman for Ward 19, had confirmed those were the chosen tenants for the space to local media outlets.

"She confirmed something she had no knowledge of," Yackey said Friday, April 6. "I'm negotiating with a lot of people, but I have nothing signed."

Yackey assured there's great interest in the site and confirmed crews are removing two gasoline storage tanks that were part of the site when the building, which sits at South Grand and Forest Park boulevards, was a Phillips 66 gas station before it became a Del Taco two decades ago. Del Taco owner DF Restaurants LLC closed both of its St. Louis Del Taco locations in July 2011.

Yackey gave no timeline for when new tenants might move into the building.
