January 04, 2012The Loop, a six-block entertainment and shopping district described by The American Planning Association as "One of the 10 Great Streets in America," will host the year's coolest event, The Loop Ice Carnival, on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14.
The carnival kicks off at the Moonrise Hotel, 6177 Delmar in the Loop, with the Snow Ball. For $30 attendees will receive two cool cocktails, a full dinner buffet and red hot music. Call 721-1111 for reservations or to learn about overnight packages.
The Ice Carnival moves into full gear on Saturday, beginning with 5K and 10K Frozen Buns Runs at 10 a.m. For registration information, visit frozenbunsrun.blogspot.com.
Other activities throughout the day include:
An Ice Cube Giveaway at nine stores throughout The Loop. One-thousand cubes will contain a dollar coin, another 9,000 cubes will have chocolate coins.
Collect free tattoos at 12 different stores beginning at 11 a.m. Once collected, pick up a prize at The Pageant.
A Putt Putt Pub Crawl will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Pick up a scorecard and start at Cicero's or The Pageant.
There will be ice sculptures on display, an Ice Slide at Blueberry Hill, a Human Dog Sled Race consisting of 16 teams, and plenty of game booths for the kids. A giant Ice Penguin and Polar Bear will visit The Loop throughout the day, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring a camera!
The Loop will be filled with the sounds of DJ music at the Music Igloo from 7 p.m. to midnight.
