Rosemary Clooney Tribute Oct. 4-14 At Missouri History Museum

September 12, 2012
Her nephew George may be the heart throb of women today, but Rosemary Clooney was once "America's Sweetheart" for legions of young men in the 1940s and 50s. With her brilliant smile and a voice like honey, she charmed audiences everywhere she sang.

St. Louis' own Christy Simmons presents a cabaret-style, one-woman tribute to Rosemary Clooney as part of the Missouri History Museum's Performing Arts series. The show is a loving, unflinching look at the remarkable life and career of one of America's most beloved musical icons and elevates cabaret to a whole new level.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13, and 2 p.m. Oct. 7 and 14, at the Des Lee Auditorium in the Missouri History Museum, Lindell Boulevard at DeBaliviere Avenue in Forest Park.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students/seniors/military, $16 for Missouri History Museum members and groups of 10 or more, $10 for student rush (half hour before the show with student ID). To purchase tickets, visit www.mohistory.org or call 361-9017.

Rosemary Clooney was a pop icon, the quintessential "Girl Singer" and "America's Sweetheart," but her personal life was one of extreme highs and lows. Hers was a story of almost overnight fame, a fall from grace, redemption and a true Hollywood "Happy Ending." Through it all, she sang her heart out.

Simmons has been called St. Louis' cabaret powerhouse, having produced and/or starred in several solo and group cabaret shows. She received a Kevin Kline Award nomination in 2011 for her role as Sophie Tucker in the New Jewish Theatre's "Last of the Red Hot Mama's."
