One-Act Play Festival Sept. 14-16

SIU-E joins St. Louis Community College this year

September 12, 2012
The College Theatre Council of Greater St. Louis will present five works by emerging and prize-winning playwrights in the 22nd annual One-Act Play Festival set for Sept. 14-16 at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIU-E) will join the Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec campuses of St. Louis Community College (STLCC) in the perennial fall event. The plays will be presented Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. at the Mildred E. Bastian Center for the Performing Arts, 5600 Oakland Ave. Admission is free.

The line-up includes "Small World" and "Creep," presented by SIU-E; "Konvergence" performed by STLCC-Florissant Valley; "China" staged by STLCC-Forest Park; and "Hold for Three" by STLCC-Meramec.

"Small World" by Tracey Wilson is directed by Gabe Taylor. This short comedy features three couples who go on blind dates, all of them unfolding simultaneously, with many unexpected interconnections along the way.

"Creep" by James Christy is directed by Meagan O'Neill. Anne is at a party where she doesn't want to be. There, she meets Hoover, a party crasher who is having a great time observing the scene, who draws her into his stories.

"Konvergence" by P.J. Gibson is directed by Renee Thomas Woods. It's about an affluent African-American couple who put their marriage on a year sabbatical. Time's up and a decision needs to be made in this drama.

"China" by Scott Organ is directed by Carla Moody. Sometimes you have to compromise, but what happens when you have to compromise your life? That's the dilemma here in this two-actress drama.

"Hold for Three" by Sherry Kramer is directed by Molly Bene. Three teenagers meet on a beach on a beautiful evening to watch the full moon come up. Two of them coach the third, helping him hold his breath while the moon rises.
